There is a workaround for getting RGB working on ASUS motherboards without armoury crate, you just need the lighting control service, I use it so the RGB on my motherboard indicates CPU temperatures. Armoury crate, Cosair iCUE, Razer Synapse, all uninstalled and blocked from installing themselves if I plug a new device in (looking at you razer synapse). RGB apps (most of them anyway) are indeed huge resource hogs so I don't allow them on my computer. HWinfo does but I don't leave it running all the time, I only use it for troubleshooting and benchmarking so most of the time it's not running.
